When you turn on two factor use your main phone and prepay to scan the barcode at the same time. Then you have a live back up that you can password protect.

There are many different approaches and some have advantages and disadvantages against others. I have also found that people completely overlook this issue.

An authenticator works very well in case a website or your password is otherwise hacked. It can happen, although the chances arent very big.
